The unknowns surrounding quantum mechanics exemplify the overlap of art and science at the most basic level. Both fields embody experimentation and trust in playfulness as a catalyst for their evolution. In particular, the purposelessness of play is essential, because transformative ideas—whether in the arts or the sciences—are unpredictable, unscripted and the result of chance encounters.
